In April 2018, MSR together with the simulation center faculty of Johnson County Community College conducted a 4 day Train the Trainer course in Overland Park Kansas. Ten participants, from a variety of teaching hospitals, medical simulation centers and healthcare organizations from all over Kansas, developed their skills in simulation-based training, including facilitation skills and video based debriefing. In addition, the participants learned scenario design that included how to write simulation-based scenarios, train the SPs (actors), program the simulators and piloting them.

This summer MSR on Wheels participated in a large military exercise on the northern border of Israel. The aim was to train the medical corps for complex medical situations. The teams trained to treat soldiers with multiple injuries, stabilize them and monitor them overnight in the division's intensive care unit. The training took place over a 24 hour period in order to simulate real conditions as closely as possible. The teams then debriefed the cases using the video that was filmed of the training.

Shana Tova
from MSR

Our new branch of MSR opened a year ago at the Haruv Children’s Campus in Jerusalem. We chose to expand and open a new branch in order to continue and deepen our simulation-based training of professionals from various disciplines.
Since September 2017, we have had training sessions for Education, Welfare, Medical and Law professionals. Courses such as; Manual procedures for obstetric residents, ‘Identifying child abuse’ for Social Work students, ‘End of life decisions and palliative care’ for community and hospital medical staffs, ‘Communicating with children who have suffered sexual abuse’ for attorneys.
At MSR Jerusalem, we are currently developing new simulation-based communication skills trainings for 2019. We will be conducting new courses for educators, management courses, service providers in hospitals, professionals who work with children at risk and more.

Cataract surgery

The Association of Ophthalmologists, MSR-Israel Center for Medical Simulation, and Lapidot Medical, Ltd., have jointly developed a simulation-based training program to improve cataract surgery skills. Course participants practice surgical techniques on specialized task trainers simulating eyes fitted with various cataract types
Handling End-of-Life Discussions

01
Participants in the course practice in a variety of scenarios related to decision-making in end-of-life situations, with actors playing elderly patients and family members. Communications specialists and the other participants observe the practice sessions from behind one-way windows, and the sessions are also videotaped for debriefing purposes. An in-depth debriefing is conducted at the end of each session, led by experienced evaluators and with the involvement of all the participants, using the recorded materials as a basis for discussion. The goal of the debriefing is to provide feedback to the physicians and help them understand how they can better communicate with patients and their families.
